The aftermath mess of Apple’s new iPhone has produced one freebie for users: MobileMe service will be extended for an extra 30 days, an $8.25 value. But it’s not for everyone. You had to have an active .Mac account as of July 9, 2008, or activated a MobileMe account by July 15.

Besides the long lines at stores to get new iPhones activated, users (including Gadgetress contributor Sonya “iGirl” Smith) reported frustration with the service. Apple’s MobileMe is used to sync e-mail, contacts, etc., between an iPhone and a computer. Essentially, it was not working properly in the days after the iPhone went on sale.

So, says Apple:

The transition from .Mac to MobileMe was a lot rockier than we had hoped. We will be extending subscriptions by 30 days to customers free of charge to express our appreciation for their patience during the transition period.

All the details to getting a 30-day extension for the $99/year service can be found HERE.
